First of November. Halloween was yesterday. My beloved trees in the Calatrava Barrio are sawn off. Ok, their brunches. It is horrifying for someone like me, who loves trees. It is too late to ask "Why?" Only a few weeks ago, when I was coincidentally at Plaza Mercat to throw away the plastic, the paper, the glass each into its own "recycling" container, they cut YOU down, my favorite big elephant tree! "Trees, or have you been sick and Palma just wants you to get healthy again?" The second I became aware what was going on, was almost like someone tried to strangle me... I stood there, breathless, confused, yes, super irritated about this decision. Who are you and for what reason did you make this ugly decision? Do you know the SECRET OF THE TREES? Do you know that they can feel and communicate with eachother like us? Do you know that they are suffering from careless actions like those - trees are a social network and so much more. Those you recklessly cut down were my lucky places in Mallorcas' hot summer days, where I could erst with my baby Ellie in their shades, where I was reading books while my little one was sleeping in their cooling and peace-giving "aura", where she was happily looking at their leafs, ... Our trees are our lungs, especially for bubbling hot cities like you, Palma. They were homes and food places for birds, insects, and yes, rats and mices, too. Now they lost everything - their blooming, majestic crown, their inviting arms, every single leaf. Naked. Naked in the spotlight. Their strong trunk and roots are the remnants of their body, once a powerful and gift-giving being. I am so sorry for you, trees. I hope your brunches will grow fast and we can have good times soon again. Secret of the Trees:
